A group of young Hondurans representing our grantee Organization for Youth Empowerment (OYE) won first prize for their video sharing a vision for a country free of impunity and violence. Representatives of Alianza Por La Paz y Justicia, the Honduran NGO organizing the contest, awarded OYE with 10,000 lempiras ($450) for their stellar submission.
OYE uses its IAF grant to encourage young Hondurans to continue their education and develop their skills in the arts, communication, a variety of subjects related to community service, and leadership. OYE has a history of success with working productively with at-risk young people to develop their skills and abilities, discouraging them from committing crimes, abusing drugs and joining gangs.
Talk about community-led development!
Two years ago today, Mexico was hit by earthquakes that resulted in the loss of more than 365 lives. The Inter-American Foundation and our partners stepped in to support community foundations and strengthen their local leadership.
The IAF, Fairtrade International, and the Latin American and Caribbean Network of Fair Trade Small Producers and Workers (CLAC) are partnering to boost income and food security for small-scale farmers in Latin America and the Caribbean.
