Communities and smallholder farmers in the semi-arid region of northern Minas Gerais struggle to maintain production in drought conditions, and have limited access to processing and marketing of fruits and sugar cane. Centro de Agricultura Alternativa do Norte de Minas (CAANM) provides farmers with technical assistance to improve agroecological practices, identify new markets and develop a participatory certification system for organic products. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to expand economic opportunity in Brazil. CAANM’s activities promote smallholder agriculture and food production to enhance food security and ensure meaningful opportunities for communities to thrive.
