Extreme weather events create food production challenges for smallholder farmers in São Paulo state’s Paraíba River valley. Serra Acima – Associação de Cultura e Educação Ambiental (SerrAcima) provides technical assistance to rural women and young people to implement agroecological practices, to sell excess produce to local markets and school lunch programs, and to expand their markets to nearby tourist destinations. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to expand economic opportunity in Brazil. SerrAcima’s activities promote smallholder agriculture and food production to enhance food security and ensure meaningful opportunities for communities to thrive.
