Project Description

People with non-traditional gender identities or sexual orientations face barriers to participation in their communities in the Caribbean region. Corporación Caribe Afirmativo (Caribe Afirmativo) increases visibility of this group’s struggles, offers psychological support to individuals, especially those who have been victims of Colombia’s armed conflict, and raises awareness of their rights. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to strengthen governance in Colombia. Caribe Afirmativo’s activities encourage civic participation to allow marginalized groups to defend their rights and advocate for government accountability.

Project Amendments

This amendment provides Caribe Afirmativo with an additional two years and $330,000 to consolidate the sustainability and programming of its “Casas de Paz” community centers. The amendment will support the extension of programming in Caribe Afirmativo’s centers in five municipalities of Colombia’s Caribbean coast, including the purchase of a new center in El Carmen de Bolivar. This programming will focus on psychosocial support for vulnerable populations and training for income-generating opportunities. Caribe Afirmativo will additionally work with communities to ensure the incorporation of their most pressing issues in local public policy agendas.

This amendment provides Corporación Caribe Afirmativo (Caribe Afirmativo) with an additional 18 months to implement their grant and $105,290 to help Venezuelan migrants constructively engage with local governments and improve their social inclusion into the communities receiving them. As part of the amendment, Caribe is mobilizing an additional $24,860 in counterpart resources to support these efforts.

This amendment is part of the IAF’s commitment to support displaced Venezuelans and communities impacted by the Venezuelan humanitarian crisis.

This amendment provides Caribe Afirmativo with an additional $15,000 to share best practices on building more inclusive societies with civil society leaders, public officials, and donor agencies from across the Americas, as well as connect Caribe Afirmativo with new donors. As part of the amendment, Caribe Afirmativo is mobilizing an additional $41,250 in counterpart funding to the grant agreement.
