Deforestation and unsustainable land use practices from illegal poppy and coca production have had a lasting environmental impact in Oporapa, Colombia, affecting the available water supply. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to enhance peace and security through sustainable natural resource management. Our grantee partner, Cooperativa Multiactiva Agropecuaria Regional San Roque Oporapa (Cooagrosanroque), protects the region’s key water resources by deepening environmental awareness among children and young people from Serranía de las Minas, providing farmers with technical assistance on sustainable agricultural practices and strengthening local organizations’ capacity to address environmental challenges.
This grant is part of the IAF’s broader initiative to build a just and lasting peace in Colombia.
