Invasive lionfish destroy biodiversity and marine ecosystems throughout the Caribbean, which has resulted in declining income for Costa Rican fishers. Asociación de Pescadores Artesanales del Caribe Sur (APACS) advocates for responsible fishing to create a more sustainable coastal ecosystem for local fishers, their families and tourists. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to expand economic opportunity in Costa Rica. APACS’ activities bolster efforts to counteract environmental degradation and protect the natural resources that communities depend on.
