Project Description

Nicaraguan migrants in Costa Rica struggle to obtain basic necessities like food, housing, and employment, and often suffer from trauma or discrimination. This dynamic has been exacerbated following the outbreak of a violent political crisis in Nicaragua in 2018. The IAF supports community-led approaches to creating economic opportunities for Nicaraguan refugees and migrants. Our grantee partner, Fundación Centro de Derechos Sociales del Inmigrante (CENDEROS), helps improve the livelihoods of Nicaraguan migrants in Costa Rica by providing seed capital, training, and technical support to bolster their organizational and leadership capacity, and increase production and sale of their organic agricultural products.
