Project Description

Smallholder agricultural producers in Costa Rica often lack access to local markets to sell fair trade and organic goods. The IAF supports community-led approaches to creating economic opportunities for organic farmers and artisans. Our grantee partner, Consumo y Comunicación Alternativa Sociedad Civil (COKOMAL), works with the Red de Economía Social y Solidaria (RedESS) to strengthen a fair trade and organic producer network in Costa Rica. COKOMAL is organizing technical workshops and exchanges with these organizations and artisans to help them improve production and marketing and increase sales of their organic products. It is also convening roundtables and a national conference to bring together organizations involved in organic agriculture, fair trade, and solidarity markets.
