In an effort to control coffee rust, farmers in Central America are replacing crops for less labor-intensive products resulting in unemployment and environmental challenges for farmers. Instituto para la Autogestión y el Desarrollo de Base (INADEB) works with farmers in a cooperative to diversify and improve production, processing, storage and domestic sales of organic coffee for increased income. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to expand economic opportunity in the Dominican Republic. INADEB’s activities promote smallholder agriculture and food production to enhance food security and ensure meaningful opportunities for communities to thrive.
