Project Description
Women often stay in abusive relationships due to a lack of economic independence. This is particularly the case in situations of poverty and marginalization, which can be exacerbated by frequent natural disasters that disrupt people?s livelihoods and access to basic services. Our grantee partner on the island of St. Lucia, Raise Your Voice St. Lucia (RYVSLU), provides training and income generation opportunities to survivors of gender-based violence in order to improve these vulnerable communities’ socioeconomic conditions and better prepare them to withstand crises. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to expand economic opportunity for survivors of gender-based violence.
This grant is part of the IAF’s commitment to strengthen community-led disaster mitigation and resilience in the Caribbean. It advances our partnership with USAID, Building Community Resilience in the Eastern & Southern Caribbean, as well as the U.S.-Caribbean Resilience Partnership.
