Producers and consumers in northern Ecuador have little access to markets that sell local, healthy food. Movimiento de Economía Social y Solidaria del Ecuador (MESSE) works with farmers to apply sustainable farming practices and develop the local fair-trade produce market through a participatory guarantee certification process. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to expand economic opportunity in Ecuador. MESSE’s activities promote smallholder agriculture and food production to enhance food security and ensure meaningful opportunities for communities to thrive.
