Young residents of the municipality of Canillá in Quiche face barriers to fully participate in the civic life of their communities. Alcaldía Maya de Canillá (AMC) works to strengthen the social fabric of the communities in the municipality in order to formalize a long-term partnership with the local government. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to strengthen governance in Guatemala. AMC’s activities further actions and institutions that make more resources available to communities seeking to address their own development needs.
This grant is part of our broader initiative to support economic prosperity, democracy and governance consistent with the U.S. Strategy for Engagement in Central America.
