Fragile forest ecosystems that support human populations are being destroyed by both market-driven coffee and subsistence farmers using short term and outdated production practices. Fundacion Comunitaria Puca (PUCA) works with community-based organizations and local authorities to promote agroforestry and environmentally-friendly, appropriate household technologies to ensure the integrity of the Puca Mountain Wildlife Refuge as a source of abundant, clean water for a growing population. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to expand economic opportunity in Honduras. PUCA’s activities bolster efforts to counteract environmental degradation and protect the natural resources that communities depend on.
This grant is part of our broader initiative to support economic prosperity, democracy and governance consistent with the U.S Strategy for Engagement in Central America.
