Project Description
Survivors of gender-based violence in inner-city Kingston, Jamaica, face high levels of poverty, unemployment, and violence. At the IAF, we support community-led solutions to expand economic opportunity for survivors of gender-based violence. Our grantee partner Women’s Resource and Outreach Centre (WROC) aims to improve collaboration among institutions that work to prevent gender and family violence, strengthen communities’ ability to reduce violence, and support survivors. The grantee will work closely with a community group, the Women’s Empowerment Group (WE Group), to empower women and girls, provide training and income generation opportunities for women, and strengthen women-owned businesses. This will also contribute to improving the socioeconomic conditions for residents of the communities of Trench Town and Lyndhurst Greenwich, addressing the root causes of gender-based violence, such as unemployment and lack of access to education.
This grant is part of the IAF’s Women INvesting in Growth and Security (WINGS) initiative to empower women as business and community leaders.
