Marcia Cota joined the IAF in July 2019 as a Senior Advisor for Strategic Partnerships. Marcia brings 25 years of experience designing and managing partnerships and projects, engaging donors, and raising funds for several non-profits. Most recently, as the Brazil Strategy and Development Director at Rare, she established a new fisheries program, launched local partnerships, set up the in-country office, and secured donor funding. Prior to Rare, Marcia worked as Senior Director for the Americas Division at Conservation International (CI). There she led fundraising efforts for eight countries in Latin American and the Caribbean and established CI’s flagship partnership with Havaianas. She has also worked in various capacities at the World Wildlife Fund, USAID, U.S. Forest Service, and The Nature Conservancy.
Marcia holds a Bachelor’s in International Relations from the University of Brasilia and a Master’s in Environmental Policy from the University of Maryland. A multilingual (Portuguese, Spanish, English) native of Brazil, she currently resides in Bethesda with her husband and daughter.
